Emergency response will be put to the test at Rockhampton North campus

CQUniversity is set to put its emergency notification alert system (ENAS) into action, within a fully simulated critical incident environment.

A joint emergency services real-time scenario will be delivered on Tuesday, 31 March, with the Queensland Police Service at the Rockhampton North campus.

During the scenario, actors will play various roles, and emergency services personnel will be involved as part of their ongoing training. Some actors will have realistic moulage injuries applied and QPS members will use training weapons and blank rounds (like a paintball gun).

If you will be on the Rockhampton North campus on Tuesday, 31 March, either for classes or to access facilities like the Library, keep reading for more details and how to prepare…

From China to Rockhampton — a unique learning experience and internship opportunity

My name is Kaixiang Zhu and I come from Guangzhou, China. I am currently studying a Master of Information Technology at the Rockhampton campus.

Before I came to Australia, I was told this is a country extremely close to nature. “Animals there are much bigger in size than any other place in the world, such as spiders, ants, crabs, lizards, etc.”

With anxiety, I flew to Rockhampton (Rocky) in Central Queensland, which was the first place I arrived in Australia, and thus my first impression of every aspect I gained of Australia is based on Rocky.

From Peru to Rockhampton — challenging myself and having fun

Hello, my name is Maribel and I come from Peru. For a long time, I wanted to study a postgraduate degree in a different and beautiful country, but it was not a simple decision for me as I knew, I would not be able to see my family and friends as I was used to doing in my home country.

I finally convinced myself though, and thankfully have no regrets! I am challenging myself, learning a lot from great professionals and having fun while experiencing this beautiful country, Australia.

Namaste to G’day Mate

It has been four months since I took my first steps on Australian soil. My voyage from India saw me travel 7,500 kilometres, three flights and 26 hours for this “once in a lifetime experience”. When I arrived in this island country, I was awestruck by the natural beauty of Queensland. The splendiferous beaches and unique flora and fauna are a treat to the eyes. Doing my postgraduate degree in engineering in such a scenic place is a dream come true.

I chose Rockhampton for my study destination because the campus here is the main one. The “uni-life” which I desired to experience is here. The other most important reason was, since Rockhampton is a small town, the university’s community involvement is always at the next level which will help me grow professionally and personally.

Keep reading for my personal experience so far in this beautiful country…

My agriculture journey in Rockhampton, Beef Capital of Australia

My name is Ruby Hubbard and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Agriculture at CQUni in Rockhampton, which I will complete in 2019.

After leaving school in 2014, I went to a university in Brisbane to study nursing. After 6 months of persevering with the degree, I finally concluded that it wasn’t for me – what a relief that was. I took the rest of the year off, to work and decide what I wanted to do, and this brought me to CQUni in Rockhampton. Continue reading My agriculture journey in Rockhampton, Beef Capital of Australia
