CQUNI SPOTLIGHT - Featuring Adrian Miller

CQUni’s newly-appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of Indigenous Engagement and BHP Chair in Indigenous Engagement Adrian Miller is a self-proclaimed geek. The Lord of the Rings enthusiast was born in Mareeba and raised in Innisfail and has family spread across North Queensland. After working at Charles Darwin University for the past year as PVC of Indigenous Leadership, Professor Miller recently relocated to Townsville with wife Selina and their two daughters (21 and 19). He’s passionate about making a difference and looks forward to influencing positive change in Indigenous education and research.

Husband, father of three young girls and CQUni Paramedic Lecturer Ian De Jonge worked for the Queensland Ambulance Service for 10 years before taking on his current role at CQUniversity. Based at the Townsville Campus, Ian has been working with the University for six months and says he loves nothing more than teaching!

CQUni Bachelor of Learning Management alumnus Shontelle Lewis is one of the hardest-working teachers in the Bundaberg region. Not only is she currently completing her Masters of Education at CQUni, she is also inspiring dozens of youngsters at Sharon State School through technology. Her work with the school children in the area of robotics recently earned her a Lego Education Teacher Award - an award granted to only one Australian teacher per year!

Nigel Stacey has been at CQUniversity in Townsville for just over 18 months and in that time has taken on a large-scale project, leading a core team to implement our staff intranet system. Born and bred in North Queensland, the senior IT analyst/developer is a keen cyclist and when not working, enjoys spending quality time outdoors.

CQUniversity Bundaberg welcomes back Anne Braund after four years working with English Schools Foundation in Hong Kong. Anne is teaching in the School of Access Education supporting literacy skill development with undergraduate, English second language and STEPS students. Anne has also developed a new unit to provide academic English support for our Research Higher Degree International students. Anne has a passion for supporting people’s success and she clearly gets a lot of enjoyment from seeing this happen.

While she’s only been living in North Queensland for a short time, she’s already loving life in the tropics and hopes to call Townsville her forever home.
