CQUNI SPOTLIGHT - Featuring Morgan Lewis

CQUni Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Diploma of Professional Practice (Co-op Engineering) student Morgan Lewis is looking to elevate perceptions of engineering and her recent success as a recipient of a Downer Scholarship will go a long way to helping her achieve that goal. Downer came on board this week as the 2018 CQUniCares Appeal Lead Donor with a $100 000 donation.

What is your favourite film or book of all time?
My favourite book series so far would be the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas – I’ve re-read this series more times than I’d like to admit!

What was a recent highlight in your life?
A recent highlight for me was my co-op placement with Downer, which is part of my CQUniCares Downer Scholarship. I got to learn so much and see how my work at uni translates into my future career.

What is the best thing about being at CQUni?
For me, the best thing about being at CQUni is my degree itself – the co-op program! It allows me to gain real-world skills in between learning all the theory, showing how all of the information we learn actually gains traction in real world applications.

This weekend is free – what would you do?
Well a weekend in my life is never really ‘free’, but if it was up to me I would be playing a round of golf on Saturday morning, followed by sailing (racing), and then instructing sailing on a Sunday morning. It’s all about getting away from the hustle of normal life on the weekend and doing what I love.

What do you like to do when you’re not studying?
If I’m not studying, weather permitting, I will be sailing … and when the weather is lacking, you’ll find me either on the golf course or at home with a good book.

What is a motto or phrase that you live by?
Depends on the day, but this one from Richard Branson is up there – “You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.”

What would be your last meal?
My last meal would be a big plate of freshly grilled Moreton Bay bugs, followed by some mango cheesecake.

If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
If I were a superhero, I would have a twofold superpower (because I cannot pick just one) where I could turn into any animal and be able to read minds of any creature. Imagine being able to turn into a dolphin and explore the sea, or an eagle and explore the air, there’s so much we miss out on at a human level – and well mindreading is mindreading!

Which major sporting event would you most like to see live?
I would love to see the America’s Cup live – the sheer speed and technology of these boats are incredible.
