CQUNI SPOTLIGHT - Featuring Robina Mann

Indigenous Student Support Officer Robina Mann recently celebrated 18 years of employment with CQUniversity. She sees her role as a “duty of care” to the Indigenous students she comes into contact with everyday. She’s also a big fan of martial arts TV legend, Chuck Norris.

What do you love most about your role?
My role is Indigenous Student Support Officer and I love helping my people. To me, I feel that it is my duty of care to provide the best support and accurate advice to all students that I am in contact with.

What is the best thing about the CQUni Rockhampton North Campus?
Besides all the open outdoor space, it would have to be the kangaroos and ducks that wander around campus like they own the place!

Who has made an impact on your life?
My Mum and Dad. This year they celebrated 38 years of marriage. They have influenced absolutely every aspect of my life. I could go on and on. My parents are the best!

Who was the last person who made an impact on your life and how?
My husband. It doesn’t matter how hard marriage is at times, its teamwork and we get through it together. He always makes a difference in my life; every single day!

What is a motto or phrase that you live by?
What others think of me is none of my business.

What is the unluckiest thing that has happened to you?
Years ago I had an accident. The car floor mat was over the accelerator of my car and I had the engine running and the car in reverse. I leant down to alter the mat (foot was on the brake) and the car revved. I got a fright and my foot left the brake which caused the car to accelerate in reverse and I was hanging out of the car. The car ran over my left leg and my right shin had a massive laceration. I hit my head on the mailbox which left me with another cut - all while I was nine weeks pregnant. At the hospital the doctor told my parents, “the baby is fine, the baby is fine” and my Mum was like, “what baby?” I recovered and had a healthy little girl on April Fool’s day! True story!

If you were down to your last $10, what would you buy?
As much rice as possible!

Who was your childhood hero and why?
Oh, my! Chuck Norris, in Walker, Texas Ranger. I thought he was unstoppable!
