With all the confusion and excitement of new student life, we bet you haven’t even had the chance to figure out what you’re supposed to be doing, let alone how you go about achieving it. Don’t worry, we’ve got you!
Welcome to your new student initiation – your checklist for the must-dos and must-sees to make you the very best CQUni student you can be.
1. Attend Orientation
No doubt right now you’re trying to get your head around what textbooks to buy, when and where your classes will be or how to use the computer systems, and all while contemplating the next few years of study that wait ahead. This is the very reason we host Orientation – to make sense of it all for you! For Term 2 2020, we are hosting Orientation Our Way.
Orientation Our Way is a personalised Orientation experience including compulsory and optional online activities such as the Orientation TV live webinar, Orientation Boost drop-in sessions, and the Orientation Online Moodle site. Remember, attending an Orientation event is compulsory for international students.

2. Join a club or society
There are a number of clubs, groups and societies here at CQUniversity. From the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS), Capricorn Tabletop, CQUni Nutrition Network and so much more, you’re bound to find something you love, and meet like-minded people! Check them out on the Clubs and Societies GS Directory on the Student Portal.

3. Follow us on social media
Never miss an opportunity to know more and do more for your studies, your career, and your student life. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Check out all our CQUni groups on Facebook.
Student News will connect you with important reminders and announcements, events and activities, employment and exchange opportunities, student support services, the latest student success stories, and much more.
4. Connect with a Student Mentor
Student Mentors have made it through their first year of study, acquiring a great deal of information along the way, making them the perfect guide to support new students. All new undergraduate and postgraduate students can join a Mentor group of their choice through our First-Year Hangout & Mentor Support Moodle page. Groups will become available one week prior to Orientation.
5. Download a map
Make sure you download a campus map for when you visit campus.
Also note that CQUni is a smoke-free university. All staff, students and visitors to our campuses are asked to comply with the smoke-free policy by not smoking anywhere on university grounds.
6. Get the SafeZone app
This is an important one. SafeZone is our free and easy-to-use mobile application which will communicate alerts during severe weather events, off-campus emergencies affecting CQUni staff and students and incidences which may trigger evacuation or lock-downs on campus. Along with this, the app will also allow you to request first aid, call for help or alert us to an unfolding emergency.

7. Bookmark the Essential Student Guide
We get it-you’re already feeling information overload and the term hasn’t even started yet! That’s exactly why we created the Essential Student Guide to break down all the important need-to-know information in a clear, concise format which you can easily find and refer to at any time.
From key contacts to terminology explanations, more student to-do checkpoints, fee and financial help and so much more – there’s a reason we call it ‘essential’.

8. Join your Campus Life Committee
From juice bikes, pizza and live music, end of term parties, pancake days & breakfast week, online events, to Zumba and Yoga, each Campus Life Committee allows students to engage with their campus and experience the fun being a student offers. 9. Student Representative Council
The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a collective group of students, elected by their peers, and appointed to engage with and advocate for the CQUniversity student community. Our members are organised, enthusiastic, dedicated and committed to their roles and responsibilities and are available to you to offer advice and support throughout your studies.
Members are elected to represent all course-levels and all locations across Australia. The SRC aims to unite the student body with fairness, respect and constructive progress, and directly contribute to enhancing the student experience. View our vacancies here.
