Have you heard about Fraser Island? It is the World Heritage Listed Island near Hervey Bay, Queensland. The island is known for its exceptional beauty with uninterrupted white sand beaches and over 100 freshwater lakes. When my friends and I did some research about the Island, we were impressed by its natural scenery and opportunity for adventure so we decided to make a trip!
There are few options to go to Fraser Island: you can book a tour or hire a 4WD and drive yourself. After weighing up the pros and cons of each, we chose to book an adventure tour. We chose the tour because it was reasonably priced, we wanted to make more friends and lastly we wanted support from other groups of people, not just relying on our limited traveling experience in Australia. And it was the best decision I have made so far! Believe me, the trip to an Island that has no phone or Internet signal, with dingoes all around your camp at night is very dangerous but exciting and memorable.
We booked a 3 days/2 nights tour from Fraser Roving Hostel (you can check the tour information on their website. We had to be at the hostel a day before the trip to attend a briefing session about the tour and dingo safety. On the briefing session, we met all other travellers and made friends with them. After that, we were assigned to four groups of eight people; each group would be responsible for one 4WD. The trip was fantastic with lots of fun memories. Below are some of pics I took from the trip:
I believe that you will have great fun and an exciting trip like me when you see the long white sand beach, dingos running along the coast and around your camp at night, the ship wreck, beautiful scenery, freshwater lakes and huge flies that bit you everywhere you go!
If you want to ask me anything about the trip, please drop me some lines in the comment box.
P/s: if you plan to go the Fraser Island, remember to bring clothes that cover your whole body and insect bites cream/medicine.
Enjoy your travel experience in Australia!
