Bachelor of Education student, Indigo, explains why the Start Uni Now (SUN) program at CQUniversity helped her decide what she wanted to study before she left high school.
I chose to study a unit through the SUN program for many reasons. Primarily, I wanted to try the Bachelor of Education and see if it was what I was interested in. I was also curious about the workload and type of tertiary education and wanted to prepare myself for when I would become a full-time student.
The last reason was, I wanted that extra reassurance that I would get into university, as I knew that if I passed my unit I would be able to apply for direct entry.
My experience with SUN was overwhelmingly positive. All the staff were extremely helpful in my journey as was my local campus. I was offered an abundance of support during my study.
When I went to the university for the orientation day many of the lectures came up to me and offered their help and support. Another great support system was the ALC as they helped me with my assessment and understanding the course material.
Not only did the SUN program help me get accepted into my dream course, but it also provided me with valuable knowledge on university study that would have been overwhelming in my first year of university. It was especially helpful to me being able to use resources and connections from my school while completing a university unit related to education.
The best thing about my CQUni course is hands-on learning, not only am I able to learn from books and lecturers, I am able to learn from hands-on training.
I feel the best thing about being at CQUni is the personalisation that you get. Here, you are not just one in a million, you are a person that people know.
I think that anyone that is curious about university study, and is undecided on their future study, should study the SUN program. Even if you decide at the end of the unit that you do not want to go further in that line of study, you still learn valuable study skills as well as get a taste of what university is going to be like.
I hope to become a teacher and eventually teach underprivileged kids in developing countries.
