The third and final day of competition at the 2019 Chancellor’s Cup really shook up the leader board as teams who had previously not been able to score a win in Touch Football or Basketball came into their own on the Soccer pitch. Other teams who had been quite dominant struggled a little more with this leg of the race.
In the end, the grand final came down to Rocky once again, with their outstanding line up of superb athletes who seemingly can handle anything in the sporting arena, and team South East Queensland. It was an exciting grand final with some friendly sledging which was all played in the best spirit of the game, while an excited and vocal crowd cheered them on from the sidelines. South East Queensland toppled Rocky and came away with the win in extra time.
After the day’s play it was off to the Hogwarts Great Dining Hall where the three days of competition were topped off by a presentation from Guest Speaker Mark Knowles OAM (Former Australian Men’s Hockey Captain, Olympic and Commonwealth Games Medalist) at the closing Ceremony. This was followed by the official Chancellor Cup presentations.
It’s been another year of awesome competition and plenty of fun. The Rockhampton team was victorious, winning the 2019 Cup on overall points.
Congratulations to all the students who participated, volunteered and put their bodies on the line. And a huge thanks to CQUni staff and volunteers for making this event possible.
Cheers – SID
