Based at the Mackay campus, Fitness student Kyle Cavanagh not only has a passion for sport and exercise, but people as well. He has quickly found his footing at CQUniversity, heading from a Certificate III in Fitness into a Certificate IV. He thoroughly enjoys putting his skills and knowledge to good use at the campus gym, helping people to lead healthier lives.
What was a recent highlight in your life?
The most recent highlight in my life was when I got to dress up as the CQU mascot for the registration of the CQ games.
What is the best thing about being at CQUni?
The best thing about being at CQUni is that we actually get to train on campus while we learn.
What do you like the most about your CQUni campus?
The staff at the gym on campus provided me a great experience as it gave me an insight into what it would actually be like in the fitness industry.
Who has made an impact on your life? Why?
My mum has made such a huge impact on my life as she has been through so much and has never given up. From this, I aim to never give up and give everything a go.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If could change one thing in the world, it would be the amount of people that need help. I hate to see someone that needs help, yet they can’t get it. By becoming a personal trainer, I will be able to help those that want to live a healthier life.
What was the moment that made you choose your career?
While coming from a sporting background I had always loved being active but it was my last block of work experience as a PE teacher where I wanted to become a personal trainer.
Who was the last person that made a difference to your life, and how?
The last person that made a difference to my life without him knowing it was my grandad. The last time I saw him he was wheelchair bound and he couldn’t do anything. From witnessing this, I wanted to live life to the fullest and do what I can and want before I’m too old too.
What is a motto or phrase that you live by?
“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, that’s when you will be successful.”
What do you love most about your role?
I love that I get to make a difference in someone’s life.
Who was your childhood hero and why?
My childhood hero aside from my mum is Johnathon Thurston. From watching him on the football field get knocked down repeatedly and get back up every time, it really makes me want to push myself more.
