Recent graduate Nabeel Abdullah moved from India to Sydney to take on his Master of Management for Engineers, and embraced life in the diverse city. As a Change Champ promoting social innovation at CQUni Sydney, Nabeel developed his passion for empowering others, and he hopes to use social innovation to promote global understanding and partnerships in his new career, too.
What is the best thing about being at CQUni?
The world itself is quite transient and constantly changing. It is quite a privilege to work with the university students who are the upcoming legends and induct a culture of social morale in their trade or profession, as a Change Champion at CQUni Sydney, and to work with supportive and enthusiastic staffs.
If you could solve any social issue in your community, what would you tackle first?
As an international student, I relish in the opportunity to experience the diversity and cultures from a range of different nations. I would love to encourage anyone I see to try and experience how wonderful it is to interact across cultural boundaries.
How are you changing the world?
I don’t - the world itself is changing at quite a significant pace! I try myself to catch up with those changes, and try empower others with tricks which helped me embrace those changes and bask in those little happy moments when I see happy people around me.
What was the moment that made you choose your career?
A dire need to learn and experience more, and openness to experience, perspective and progress. I always love to develop myself whichever way I can. After completing my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, and work experiences in an electric superbike start-up back home and working as a visiting scientist in CERN (Switzerland), I realised I have so much more to perfect in my life.
What’s the film you’ll never get sick of watching, and why?
The Shawshank Redemption. This movie is classic, a touching drama that helped mould my motto: ‘The only two factors that limit your impact is your imagination and your commitment.’
What is a phrase that you live by?
Believe that what you give today in life will pave your path to what you achieve tomorrow.
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
If I were a superhero, I would want to look at people and send some electromagnetic wave that would relax people, make them calm, content and happy in life.
