I heard about 3 Day Startup (3DS) through a marketing elective I picked up last year. As business is my first love I decided It would be a fun way to spend a weekend, as my lecturer was keen to point out.
I once read that being in business is personal development on steroids and I’ve certainly found that to be true.
It’s fun and challenging and you are constantly stretching yourself mentally by learning new skills and developing ideas to take your business to the next level, and expanding your network of contacts - stuff doesn’t happen without working with others.
3DS is an ideal entry point for anyone thinking they might like to have a go, and just get started. It is an idea incubator environment where you are surrounded by lots of other people with creative ideas and some of the best local mentors around.
The energy that is created in that room will have you on a natural high for days, and for some that will kick start the momentum to go on and create some amazing ventures (commercial and non-commercial).
When I did 3DS I pitched a relationship app which was lucky enough to be selected by the group to go through and be work shopped over the weekend. I had the support of a great team and access to some amazing mentors. I experienced mentor whiplash for the first time through, and the feedback was invaluable.
I’ve taken onboard some of that feedback to further develop my business concept. I’ve stayed in contact with some of my team from 3DS and developed my idea further.
The app is in the pipeline for a 2018 launch!
If you are interested in just having a go and working with others to make a social impact, or develop a fix for a bunch of paying customers then the 3DS weekend is for you.
It’s not only a fantastic and exciting opportunity to take your creativity or ideas to the next level, but it’s also free.
The 3 Day Startup will be held from 9 - 11 June 2017. To register for the event click here. Registrations close Friday, 26 May.
