My name is Noeleen McDonald and I’m currently completing a Diploma of Music at CQUniversity Mackay Ooralea campus. Following this, I’m hoping to transition into CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Music (Music Studies) from Term 2, 2017.
The Diploma of Music course has given me the opportunity to learn more of the requirements and understanding needed for academic expectations. As it is a recognised level of achievement the option to continue or not can make this diploma a worthwhile start to the undergraduate degree.
Aspects I’ve enjoyed with the Diploma of Music include meeting fellow musicians, getting to know the lecturers who are also part of the Bachelor of Music degree and learning new music.
I am a mature age student interested in learning and applying the skill set required for an independent and satisfying work life. To this end I have also completed CQUni’s Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) in Term 2, 2016 which enabled direct entry.
Studying at the Mackay Ooralea campus has given me the opportunity to make personal contact with lecturers, university staff, and fellow students, regardless of the subjects studied. These connections can be the difference between finishing-up and staying on if the way forward becomes too tough.
Studying units by distance education has allowed me build self confidence in my ability to manage my time effectively and continue to stay motivated without the need to attend classes.
The best thing about my course of study is the reassurance of the standards of learning that all my lecturers convey. My life experience gives the insight of how necessary these standards are to the outcome of results achieved.
Upon graduation, I look forward to following the advice given by my Unit Coordinator to continue my studies to the best outcome. The plan for my future being the realisation of becoming a qualified educator, enabling me to work with disadvantaged children and adults.
For those contemplating studies at CQUniversity, be prepared to work hard, yet be reassured that you will receive all the support needed to make your dreams and goals a reality.
