Is this your first year at uni? No worries! You’re going to survive this adventure with many great memories and I want to share my tips for your first year.
- Explore the area:
Know the area around the Uni. The CQUniversity Melbourne campus is in the heart of the city and there are lots of things to do and places to discover. I recommend walking as it’s the best way to get to know the city. On your way, you will find plenty of restaurants, cafes, art galleries, gyms and shopping centers. It’s important to get familiar with the train and tram stops and figure out how to get home after a long day of study (shopping)!
- Plan your time and be organised
Get a big wall calendar for your room, or if you prefer to use technology there are some great apps to help keep you organised. These are useful to remind you when assignments are due, exam dates, events at the Uni and catch ups with friends.
- Find the ideal place to study
Try to find a suitable place to study. Choose a place that is comfortable for you like your room or on the deck at home. Personally, I get too distracted doing my assignments at home, so I prefer a cozy corner in the CQUni library. It’s quiet, there’s free WIFI, computers, books and I can ask the librarian to guide me in my assignments. It depends on you and your preference.
- Make time for you, and make friends
You are not alone, we are thousands. Ensure that you have some time to relax and chill out with friends. This experience can help you to make a huge network of people that will help you later in life. Melbourne is a great place to meet people from different cultures and have fun during your learning journey!
