CQUniversity is committed to providing a positive and rewarding student experience. Now, more than ever, we’re proud to be able to provide the services and support you’ve come to expect as a CQUni student. This is in part thanks to funding from the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
If you’re wondering what the SSAF is, and how it’s benefiting you as you study online, let us explain in a little more detail – you might even be surprised by what’s available thanks to SSAF funds.
The SSAF is a compulsory fee used by universities to fund and improve services and amenities of a non-academic nature. All SSAF funds are used to enhance or extend student services and facilities in accordance with funding guidelines.
Students have a say in how funds are used. The Student Representative Council (SRC) are democratically elected student representatives who provide input about what will be funded through the SSAF, and all students get a say in our annual survey. Keep an eye on your student email for the invitation.
CQUniversity services and amenities support both on-campus and online students. Among other initiatives, such as sport and campus life, SSAF funding is used to help the following services.
Online study help, anywhere, anytime. The service is available directly from Moodle, and allows you to upload files for feedback, or connect with online tutors in real time. The service also has a mobile app, which you can download from the iOS App store or Android Google Play.
The SSAF helps our Library to provide a postage service for online students within Australia. Online students may request prescribed textbooks from the Distance Education Collection. The Library will pay postal charges to send material and supply a prepaid label for return postage. Online students are also provided additional loan days for transit time.
The Counselling team aims to assist students with any issues that may negatively impact their studies. Student Counsellors are available to assist you with both academic and personal counselling services, with phone, Zoom, and email appointments available.
CQUni Careers supports CQUniversity students to achieve their career development and professional aspirations through career education, guidance and information. Take advantage of the CQUni Career Connection service or explore job opportunities on CareerHub.
CQUni students are able to connect with our knowledgable team of Student Mentors thanks to SSAF funds. The Student Mentor & Leadership Program assists students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses to quickly feel at home at CQUniversity. For Term 2 2020, the Student Mentor Program will also be assisting continuing students, not just those in their first year.
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) are structured online group study sessions aimed at units which have been identified as historically challenging for students. Sessions are facilitated by PASS Leaders, students who have recently received excellent grades in the unit and have undergone nationally accredited training. Studies have shown that students who participate in 4+ PASS sessions a term may see an increase in marks with students participating in 10+ sessions a term receiving a higher overall grade.
The SRC is a collective group of students, elected by their peers, and appointed to engage with and advocate for the CQUniversity student community. SRC members are organised, enthusiastic, dedicated and committed to their roles and responsibilities and are available to you to offer advice and support throughout your studies.
The SRC team also provides many services to students across all CQUniversity locations. The team works to foster student involvement in University matters and improve peer advocacy, allowing students to contribute to the student experience both online and on-campus.
The CQUni Student Leadership hub offers opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, boost employability, develop a network and enhance the university experience. An annual Student Leadership Conference is also supported by SSAF.
Thanks to the support of your SRC, students can opt to join or start a club or society. Each club and society can then affiliate with CQUniversity to access benefits such as merchandise, promotional materials, training and professional development, equipment, and resources.
As you can see, SSAF supports a wide range of services that are available on-campus and online. Service teams like Student Success also receive support from SSAF and are available to help new and continuing students succeed in their studies.
These are just a few of the services supported by SSAF funds. Anytime you see this green badge, you’ll know SSAF funds are at work.
Students who are required to pay Student Services and Amenities Fee are invited to respond to the annual Student Services and Amenities Fee survey. Please keep an eye on your student email.
