Welcome to my hometown: Traralgon, Australia

A CQUni course can take you many places; to regional, remote or metropolitan Australia, or across the globe. Financial planning accounting graduate Paula Siddle introduces us to her hometown – Traralgon, Victoria –  and gives us the inside advice on where to get the best doughnuts.

My hometown is…
Traralgon.  It is situated in Latrobe Valley / Gippsland Victoria.

If you’re visiting you should…
Take a look at the food.  For a regional area, Traralgon has an extensive array of different restaurants and cafe eateries.  We also have some exceptional coffee baristas.  Gippsland also has some high-quality tourist options.  We are an hour from the snow (clearly in Winter) and an hour from the 90-mile beach.  Also, Wilson’s Prom has some of the most beautiful beaches you will come across and some fantastic hiking tracks.

The best bit about living here is…
We are also only 2 hours from Melbourne so if you want to go to an AFL game its a good day trip!

The easiest way to get here is…
In your own helicopter… or you can come straight up the freeway from Melbourne.

Something you might not know about the area is…
That it is a short (10 minute) drive to the Bushies bakery in Glengarry.  This bakery produces many variations of the Hot Cross Bun over Easter that are exported all over Victoria (potentially further) and have queues up the Main Road in Glengarry.  They produce flavours like Jam Doughnut (my favourite), Rasberry Choc Chip, Choc Chip with Salted Caramel Centres, Lemon Meringue…… you get the idea.  And the best part, $1 from each sale is donated to Royal Children’s Hospital.

Paula Siddle graduated with a Bachelor of Financial Planning / Bachelor of Accounting in 20108. Paula is fulfilling her goal and is now a financial planner at RGM.

This blog is part of a ‘hometown introduction’ series highlighting what it’s like to live in CQUni’s global footprint. If you’ve graduated from a CQUni course and would like to be part of this blog series please contact alumni-enquiries@cqu.edu.au.
