The start of my career at CQUniversity

My name is Emily McCahon and I am Bachelor of Medical Sonography and Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography student. I first became aware of CQUniversity’s Medical Sonography course from a careers’ advisor in 2014. I was halfway through my second year of a three-year Health Science course at Latrobe, however, I was driven by the opportunity to study ultrasound and applied straight away. I honestly was not expecting to be successful in my application, but to my delight, I was accepted.

Studying medical sonography has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. The course has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and grow both academically and personally. The people I have met at CQUniversity have been truly beautiful and inspiring. I am so grateful to have shared this experience with such a beautiful group of people and have created lifelong friendships. My Melbourne campus instructors have supported and nurtured my journey through Medical Sonography, and have been motivating and inspiring role models to the sonography profession.

I cannot wait to utilise all that I have been taught from CQUniversity, in the medical imaging health industry. My second placement for the course is about to commence, where I’ll be located at Central Gippsland Health in Sale. My first placement at the start of this year was in the beautiful Mossman, Northern Queensland, and has fuelled my interest to travel and work beyond Victoria’s border and maybe even overseas.

My advice to future students of CQUniversity is to passionately engage yourself in your studies, keeping your end goal in sight, so it drives you forward toward your successes, but to also make sure you just have a good time along the way. I can assure that CQUniversity provides you with all the support and services you will need to achieve what you want from your studies.
