Census date is one of the most important, recurring key dates throughout your degree. It’s the due date for certain payments, form submissions, and enrolment changes.

Census date is the date in each term when the University counts enrolments for reporting to the Australian Government. Census date happens every term throughout your degree, usually in Week 4.

Census date is the:
- last day to withdraw from one or more units without academic or financial penalty
- due date to make upfront payment of your tuition fees, student contributions and Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)
- due date for submitting a Request for a Commonwealth supported place and a HECS-HELP loan form to defer your student contributions to a HELP loan
- due date for submitting a Request for a FEE-HELP loan form to defer your tuition fees to a HELP loan
- due date for submitting a Request for a SA-HELP loan form, to defer your SSAF to a HELP loan.
Census date is also your last chance to:
- Apply for a leave of absence
- Change your citizenship status
- Provide your Tax File Number (TFN) if eligible to do so.

Hi there, I’m not understanding about providing TFN, do we need to pay tax for our student fee?
Hi Nomi,
Thanks for your enquiry. Your TFN is required if you intend to defer your fees as your HELP balance is managed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). If you are eligible and do intend to defer your fees, please make sure you submit your relevant HELP form including your TFN before Census date. The Term 1, 2017 Census date is Tuesday, 28 March 2017.
