Why Census date is important

Census date is one of the most important, recurring key dates throughout your degree. It’s the due date for certain payments, form submissions, and enrolment changes.

Keep reading to learn more about Census date, and what it means for you…

Census date is the date in each term when the University counts enrolments for reporting to the Australian Government. Census date happens every term throughout your degree, usually in Week 4.

Our Key Dates will help you to find when Census date is. Make sure you track it down and mark it in your calendar today!

Census date is the:

  • last day to withdraw from one or more units without academic or financial penalty
  • due date to make upfront payment of your tuition fees, student contributions and Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)
  • due date for submitting a Request for a Commonwealth supported place and a HECS-HELP loan form to defer your student contributions to a HELP loan
  • due date for submitting a Request for a FEE-HELP loan form to defer your tuition fees to a HELP loan
  • due date for submitting a Request for a SA-HELP loan form, to defer your SSAF to a HELP loan.

Census date is also your last chance to:

  • Apply for a leave of absence
  • Change your citizenship status
  • Provide your Tax File Number (TFN) if eligible to do so.

Submitting any of your HELP forms is super simple to do by following your MyCQU checklist. There are also a number of instruction sheets available to guide you through this process step-by-step. Not sure if you have already submitted a form? See the forms you have already submitted to find out.

Ignoring your financial and enrolment responsibilities could lead to significant disruptions to your studies, like losing your access to Moodle, or even cancellation of your enrolment.

Make sure you understand your responsibilities this Census date. Find out more at www.cqu.edu.au/census, or contact us online.

    1. Hi Nomi,

Thanks for your enquiry. Your TFN is required if you intend to defer your fees as your HELP balance is managed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). If you are eligible and do intend to defer your fees, please make sure you submit your relevant HELP form including your TFN before Census date. The Term 1, 2017 Census date is Tuesday, 28 March 2017.

Our Student Fees team are more than happy to help with any further questions you may have. Their contact details can be found within the blog.

      Kind regards,
      Aleysha
